Fun Halloween Words in Spanish!

Updated: Jun 30, 2023

A jack-o'-lantern is a carved pumpkin, turnip, or other root vegetable lantern associated with Halloween. Its name comes from the phenomenon of a strange light flickering over peat bogs, called will-o'-the-wisp or jack-o'-lantern. The name is also tied to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a drunkard who bargains with Satan and is doomed to roam the Earth with only a hollowed turnip to light his way.

Halloween has always been a Holiday I looked forward too, because I'm very creative with a vivid imagination. Halloween allows you to become whatever you want for one night and eat as much candy and sweet treats your tummy can handle. What an amazing day for a kid right?

The scary parties, haunted houses, and games left me with so many amazingly spooky memories. This year I am going to dress up as a Witch. What costume are you wearing this Halloween?

Teaching Tip: This year on Halloween try something different with your decorations and have your child or student(s) learn a few spooky words above in Spanish, and label them in your home, or classroom with a funny picture attached for help with comprehension. Make your Halloween Spanish lesson more fun by making spooky sounds or movements when a child or student(s) pronounces the word.
